CLIMATE SIGNIFICANCE

The negative effects of climate change are well documented in Ghana, particularly in rural areas - crippling economic development and increasing poverty at the same time. Through its climate change policies, the government of Ghana has demonstrated that they’re not oblivious of the environmental challenges ahead.

Scientists and conservation experts alike have discovered significant populations of new, rare and threatened species in Ghana – including the critically endangered frog, Conraua derooi. This underscores the area’s high biological diversity and value.

To combat climate change efforts, the initiative named “Increased Resilience to Climate Change in Northern Ghana Through the Management of Water Resources and Diversification of Livelihoods", and a partnership with the UNDP has been created. The government aims to improve the adaptable capacity of rural settlements to climate impacts and risk to water resources, particularly in northern Ghana.
