6. What is our data-driven approach?

Plan A crosses climate and socioeconomic indicators with company-specific data to give tailored diagnoses to companies in their efforts to become sustainable.

By helping stakeholders understand their carbon emission and act accordingly, our approach helps companies improve their environmental performances and back their efforts with tangible outcomes.

We believe that companies should aim for decarbonisation of their activities by actively reducing their carbon footprint as well as compensating what cannot be removed. The Plan A Carbon Manager creates a feedback loop between measurement and action within a company to accurately track the progress in impact reduction.

7. What is the data behind Plan A?

Plan A combines internal data that we gather from public and private sources to provide the most accurate measurements and the most flexible measurement techniques for our customers. Our tool can cover scopes 1, 2 and 3 of emissions and we develop proprietary calculators for specific needs of businesses. Our tool can plug in your data sources and there are several ways to calculate your carbon footprint using company-specific data, spend-based information, or proxy-based measurements.

8. How does the Plan A calculator work?

A carbon footprint evaluation is made based on a company’s performance in three categories: energy consumption, transport behaviour and office maintenance.
We have curated three key hierarchical datasets to translate user datainto a footprint estimation (CO₂e):

  1. National emission factor: A data point that is specific to each categorical activity that factors into the emission levels of all activities. These factors are developed and published by national governments.
  2. The average value of activity: In order to make data collection easier, we have used scientific study-based averages to derive CO₂ estimations that complements user data.
  3. A national average value of the activity in case of absence of data from the user: Rarely, it is possible that a user does not have immediate access to the activity data. In such cases, we use national averages to derive the CO₂ estimation.
